88-Year-Old Pumps Iron While Battling Cancer
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Feb. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Need a jolt of inspiration for your 2017 fitness resolution? Meet 88 1/2-year-old "gym rat" Sue Bosze from Grand Rapids, Mich., battling her third cancer.
Six years ago and battling a second form of breast cancer, Sue joined a complimentary Livestrong exercise program for cancer survivors at a nearby YMCA. It was her first time ever stepping into a gym, and the rows of weight training equipment "scared her half to death."
She gave it a shot and has never looked back.
Today, at 88 ½, Sue is battling skin cancer, but that isn't stopping the octogenarian from thrice-weekly workouts, including bench pressing 150 pounds. "As long as I can go to the gym, I'm going to go," she said. "It's very important to take care of yourself."
The Metro Health Hospital Foundation underwrites the program.
