AARP IL, Treasurer Frerichs to Host Secure Choice Event in Chicago to Kick Off Employer Enrollment
Economist Richard Thaler Among Financial Experts, Business Leaders to Attend
CHICAGO, Nov. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs and AARP Illinois will host an opportunity for employers and stakeholders to learn more about Illinois' Secure Choice Program. Open enrollment is underway for the program that combats the retirement savings crisis facing our country by creating a portable retirement investment tool that travels with the worker. When fully implemented, 1.2 million Illinois workers will have the ability to save for retirement via payroll deduction through their employer.
The media is invited to attend the event. Treasurer Frerichs and a member of AARP will be available for interviews in advance of the event on Thursday, November 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the Union League Club at 65 West Jackson in Chicago.

Secure Choice requires that Illinois businesses not offering a retirement savings plan enroll their employees in Secure Choice if they have at least 25 employees and have been in business for at least two years. The Secure Choice pilot program began this summer with a small cohort of employers and their employees already participating in the program. The official launch begins this month for employers with 500 employees or more. By July 2019, the program will expand to companies with 100 to 499 employees. Companies with 25 to 99 employees will begin enrolling in November 2019. Currently, Secure Choice has nearly 2,000 participants saving for retirement with each paycheck, with thousands more expected to begin contributions in the coming months. |
