ABBYY Announces OCR Integration Product Strategy For Cloud Infrastructures and Platforms

PHILADELPHIA, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic software, today unveiled at AIIM Expo and Conference, two new beta trial programs which will allow ISVs, mobile application developers, enterprise IT developers, and business process outsourcers (BPOs) to develop OCR (Optical Character Recognition) solutions within cloud-enabled environments. The limited beta trial program will include two products; ABBYY Mobile Web Services and ABBYY's AMI (Amazon Machine Image).

Both programs are being made available for beta testing to a select group of developers for testing and feedback. The program will include integration of ABBYY's award-winning optical character recognition (OCR), barcode recognition, and PDF conversion technologies into online and offline mobile applications as well as SaaS applications running on Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) infrastructure.

ABBYY Mobile Web Services and AMI betas represent the most feature-rich and accurate development products for capture and conversion technologies in the Cloud. They can be applied, to integrate capture and conversion into mobile applications via Web Services, or to enhance your SaaS application on EC2 with ABBYY OCR Technology Features.

ABBYY Mobile Web Services provides developers with a fast, secure and simple solution for accessing ABBYY's Mobile Software Development Kit (MSDK) via remote Web Services. The product is designed for mobile application developers who need to combine their own resources, application and data, with other external web services for robust OCR, barcode recognition, business card recognition and text conversion integration.

Using ABBYY Mobile Web Services, a developer can offload maintenance and upgrade activities that are common with embedding the OCR SDK in the application. Plus, because it's all enabled on Amazon EC2 it provides a platform-independent integration solution, making the development of mobile capture solutions faster and easier for developers, while lowering upfront IT costs.
