ACFCS marshals resources, expertise and training to take on global threat of human trafficking

MIAMI, April 30, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Human trafficking is a multi-billion-dollar criminal industry, estimated to be the world's second most profitable illicit activity. This life- and society-destroying crime has impacted approximately 21 million victims of all ages across the globe. Financial crime prevention professionals have the potential to be on the frontlines of confronting this worldwide threat – from illuminating money flows that can help identify and subsequently rescue victims, to cutting off the flow of profits to traffickers.

Against that backdrop, industry leader, the Association of Certified Financial Crime Specialists (ACFCS), a BARBRI Professional Association, has launched a "Human Trafficking Quarterly Focus" through June that lasers in on all aspects of human trafficking and how financial crime professionals can make a difference.  A collaboration between ACFCS members, its partners and the greater financial crime prevention community, the Quarterly Focus offers tools and resources to bolster public and private sector professionals' ability to detect and prevent human trafficking.

The Quarterly Focus is anchored by ACFCS' successful training webinars, with a special series that explores all aspects of human trafficking, including insights on trends and typologies provided by Homeland Security agents. In a very special session on April 24, Human Trafficking – A Survivor's View on the True Costs and the Financial Sector Response, human trafficking survivor and advocate Michelle Furgiuele took attendees inside the stark world of human trafficking with insights on how to detect and prevent it. Future webinars will feature guidance from domestic and international banks, coverage on the intersection of human trafficking and cryptocurrencies, and more.

ACFCS will offer an innovative new Human Trafficking Resource Center, chockful of guidance, documents and links to other organization and initiatives committed to combating human trafficking. The Center will feature contributions and suggestions from ACFCS' widespread and diverse member community, with an eye toward building the most comprehensive database possible. ACFCS will also highlight the efforts of its members in the fight against trafficking through profiles, success stories and more.

ACFCS will be awarding three complimentary CFCS certification packages to individuals who work to detect and prevent human trafficking. The application period is open through Friday, May 24, 2019.
