Actiontec Extends Optim® Platform with F-Secure SENSE to Protect Users and Devices

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Actiontec Electronics is launching a new security service as part of its Optim Platform. Powered by cyber security experts F-Secure, Actiontec's Optim Managed WiFi Service now provides enhanced connected home protection and parental controls to safeguard homes and families from harmful web pages, hacking, spyware, phishing, unprotected IoT devices and other cyber security threats. Actiontec is now demonstrating the capability to broadband service providers in North America.

Actiontec's Optim platform currently provides a suite of managed WiFi services, including basic parental controls, a comprehensive suite of tools to manage and troubleshoot the WiFi network and big data analytics for proactive identification of network-wide issues. Also available to service providers and their subscribers is security for their home network and devices, including reputation-based threat prevention.

This new security component will actively safeguard the network by protecting users and devices from malicious web pages, monitor outbound traffic and immediately block traffic to URLs with a bad reputation. For example, this service will block devices from accessing websites that can infect devices with a Trojan or virus, as well as fake websites that try to steal financial information. This functionality also enables advanced parental control by blocking access (per device or user) to unwanted content like porn, drugs or violence.

Optim's cloud-based architecture streamlines roll-out. The new security features are tightly integrated in the platform and Optim agent that resides in the gateway. Service providers can activate security services on any Optim-enabled gateway without having to upgrade the firmware or swap out hardware. Further, Optim's agent is hardware agnostic and is currently running on a variety of WiFi routers and gateways.

Optim Security is available now and is a part of Actiontec's Optim Managed WiFi Solution, a cloud-based platform that gives broadband operators the tools they need to manage subscribers' home wireless networks and all the wireless client devices on it.
