ORLANDO, Fla., May 10, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Advantage Rent A Car and EZ Rent A Car ("AEZ"), are proud to announce their participation in the new Consolidated Rental Car Facility (CONRAC) opening at Hawaii's Kahului Airport on May 15. This building, which has been under construction since April 2016, will serve as a standardized location for travelers to pick up their rental vehicles.

The facility combines more than a dozen rental car providers, AEZ included, and brings rental vehicles closer to the main airport than they were before. Containing almost 3,800 parking stalls for rental vehicles, the three-story building has been designed to combine office space and customer service counters with Quick-Turn-Around (QTA) areas encompassing fueling stations and car wash facilities for rental cars.

The CONRAC's design balances earth-friendliness with a design sensibility that channels the essence of Maui's beautiful natural environments. It will serve as a gateway to the island for travelers, and is served by a designated access road lined with local flora. The building is abutted by a 140,000-gallon reservoir of non-potable water that will be used to keep the landscaped areas verdant, without taking away from the area's potable water supply.

Ecologically conscious and convenient design features of the facility include an electric rail tram which will replace the fleet of shuttle buses that has historically taken passengers from terminals to their rental cars at Kahului Airport. The trams will eventually be powered by solar panels, part of a statewide push for clean energy. The use of the new rail tram will cut down on fuel consumption and emissions - the buses average 85 trips per hour. Using trains instead of buses will also limit congestion on the main roads within the airport and nearby.

Kahului Airport is the main way for air travelers to reach Maui, and its facilities are the newest in the State of Hawaii. The airport covers 1,391 acres and serves over 6,500,000 passengers each year, which makes it the second-busiest of Hawaii's commercial airports. Located three miles from the town center of Kahului, it's the perfect starting point for a road trip up to the peak of Haleakala or down the Hana Highway, with AEZ providing rental car services for these journeys.
