Adventist University of Health Sciences' Earns Approval for New Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program

Alescia DeVasher Bethea, Ph.D., CRNA, Chair of the Nurse Anesthesia Department, said, "The Nurse Anesthesia Department faculty are proud of the quality of the graduates from the current master's degree program, and are excited to launch into the next phase of nurse anesthesia education at the doctoral level. With the Lord's leading, it is the goal of the Nurse Anesthesia Department to continue to produce highly sought-after graduates who will practice exceptional nurse anesthesia as a ministry."

ADU currently offers a Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia (MSNA), a 28-month master's degree program that started in January 2008. This program will be phased out and new enrollments have ceased. The program has already begun its transition by introducing changes for its DNAP curriculum, which will increase to a 36-month program. The first DNAP cohort will enroll in May 2018 with an anticipated graduation of April 2021.

The change was initiated after the COA revised the accreditation standards to require that students accepted into accredited entry-level programs on or after January 1, 2022 must graduate with doctoral degrees.
