AEE Taps Maryland Energy Official Malcolm Woolf

As VP of Government and Regulatory Affairs, Woolf Will Help Make Business Case for a Smarter Energy Future

WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) CEO Graham Richard today named Malcolm Woolf as Vice President for Government and Regulatory Affairs. Woolf most recently served as Director of the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) under Governor Martin O'Malley.

A nationally recognized expert with extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, Woolf comes to AEE, a national business organization representing the advanced energy industry, to engage the organization on federal and state policy issues. Working closely with AEE Vice President of Government and Political Affairs Tim Greeff, a D.C. veteran, and VP of State Policy Tom Plant, former legislator and Energy Secretary under Governor Bill Ritter of Colorado, Woolf will round out a powerhouse regulatory, federal and state policy team.

Woolf was appointed in June 2007 by Governor O'Malley to lead the Maryland Energy Administration in promoting affordable, reliable and clean energy. In this role, he helped enact and implement an ambitious set of energy reforms, including the EmPOWER Maryland Act which seeks a 15 percent reduction in peak demand and overall electricity consumption, a 20 percent renewable energy standard, and a 25 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.  To achieve these goals, MEA has launched numerous innovative new programs to promote greater use of advanced energy technologies.  Several of these programs have received national recognition, including the Generating Clean Horizons program, which was named one of the "top 25 innovations in American government" by Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Woolf, who has just completed his second year as chair of the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO), has been invited to testify before the Senate Energy Committee on several occasions, and is frequently featured in national media, including NPR and CNN. Woolf was previously the director of the National Governors Association's Natural Resources Committee, which works to shape federal policy on energy, agriculture, the environment, and natural resources. Woolf also served as counsel to the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, working on energy and environment issues, including renewable and rural energy.
