AES Eletropaulo Recorded Net Income of R$ 1,063 Million in 2009 and Investments of R$ 516 Million

SAO PAULO, March 12, /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Eletropaulo Metropolitana Eletricidade de Sao Paulo S.A. (BM&FBovespa: ELPL3, ELPL5 and ELPL6; OTC: EPUMY and ELPSY), announced today its results for 2009.

Captive customers' consumption in AES Eletropaulo's concession area amounted to 34,436 GWh in 2009, 1.7% higher than in 2008. This rise resulted from the high consumption in the residential and commercial classes and lower consumption in the industrial class. The total market consumption remained flat year-over-year due to an increase in the captive market combined with lower consumption by the free market.

The Company's results reflect the positive effects of the Annual Tariff adjustment of +14.88% (as of July 4, 2009) and payment of the first installment of the agreement signed with the Municipal Government of Sao Paulo and the benefits from adhering to the Federal Tax Debt Refinancing Program.

In recognition of its commitment to maintaining an excellent relationship with its employees, the community, shareholders and government and regulatory bodies, AES Eletropaulo received major awards in 2009, highlighting PNQ – Premio Nacional de Qualidade (National Quality Award), granted by Fundacao Nacional da Qualidade (National Quality Foundation), and the top position in Indice Aneel de Satisfacao do Consumidor (Aneel's Consumer Satisfaction Index) in the Southeast Region. Furthermore, S&P ratings agency raised its ratings on AES Eletropaulo to AA+ and BB+, on the Brazilian national and global scales respectively, in February 2010. This evaluation was based on information available at that time.

Management will propose that R$ 757.1 million be distributed as dividends and interest on equity at the General Shareholders' Meeting scheduled for April 30, 2010. This amount, added to the R$ 322.7 million interim dividends already paid, totals R$ 1,079.8 million, or 100% of the net income available for distribution to shareholders.
