After 43 Years, Frugal Fannie's Iconic Westwood Store is Closing

Owners Kathleen and Orrin Doxer cite retirement, health considerations, and the end of their lease; A Going-Out-of-Business sale begins Thursday

WESTWOOD, Mass., Sept. 24, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Frugal Fannie's Fashion Warehouse, one of the Boston region's most well-known discount fashion retailers, is closing its doors after 43 years. Owners Kathleen Doxer and Orrin Doxer announced their decision to end store operations due to health considerations, key staff retirements, and end of their lease with no further options to renew. They retained SB360 Capital Partners to help run a Going Out of Business liquidation sale at the iconic Westwood store.

Serving the Greater Boston area since 1983, Frugal Fannie's has been a favorite destination for value-conscious women across three generations. Known for its enormous no-frills warehouse store layout, Frugal Fannie's specializes in current-season women's fashions, offering designer and brand-name clothing, shoes, and accessories at discounted prices. Situated in an industrial park just off Route 1 on the Westwood/Norwood line, the store has built a loyal following throughout New England by providing an ever-changing selection of merchandise, making every shopping trip a unique experience.

Although closing the store was unavoidable, Ms. Doxer says the decision still feels deeply personal. "This store has been our life. Many of our employees have been with us since the early days, and they have become family. Our loyal customers have traveled near and far to shop with us for decades, and many have become friends. It is with profound sadness that we bring this brilliant chapter to a close, and we hope our customers will visit us during the final weeks of our business."

Frugal Fannie's Going Out of Business sale starts Thursday, September 24 at their original Westwood location. Shoppers seeking bargains on everyday apparel, outerwear, special occasion dresses, fashion jewelry, stylish accessories, home accents and more will appreciate the mix of recognizable labels, competitive pricing, and the excitement of discovering unexpected finds. With day-in, day-out prices up to 50% less than department stores, customers will now find merchandise marked down even further, offering shoppers additional savings.
