AIT Laboratories, a HealthTrackRx Company, Awarded Group Purchasing Contract from Vizient, Inc. for GuideMed® a New Clinical Solution to Prevent Opioid Misuse

DENTON, Texas, March 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- AIT Laboratories, a HealthTrackRx company, has been awarded a group purchasing contract from Vizient, Inc., the largest member-driven healthcare performance improvement company in the country.

The agreement provides enhanced savings on AIT's specific clinical solution, GuideMed®, which is aimed at preventing opioid misuse to Vizient's diverse membership and customer base, which includes academic medical centers, pediatric facilities, community hospitals, integrated health delivery networks and non-acute health care providers.

Opioid misuse is now the number one cause of preventable death in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 33,000 people died from opioid overdose in 2015 and more than half of those deaths involved a prescription opioid. Each day 91 people die from opioid overdose.

Opioids are powerful narcotics prescribed primarily for pain relief. Prolonged opioid use can cause physical dependence. Opioid misuse and addiction are possible complications if patients are not monitored closely, but healthcare practitioners have struggled to monitor patients due to operational constraints. GuideMed removes those constraints.

Many states and the CDC have issued guidelines to govern how opioids are prescribed and call on healthcare practitioners to monitor their patients more closely. In November 2016, the Surgeon General issued a comprehensive report asking for greater efforts to prevent opioid misuse. GuideMed facilitates prevention efforts by completing patient monitoring tasks and providing detailed reports, so healthcare practitioners are able to focus on caring for patients and prescribing responsibly.
