AltaPointe's Behavioral Health Crisis Center Surpasses $101 million in community savings

MOBILE, Ala., Sept. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- AltaPointe Health announced that its Behavioral Health Crisis Center has now generated an estimated $101.5 million in community cost savings since opening in May 2021, marking a significant milestone in the center's impact on behavioral health crisis care in Mobile.

By providing an alternative to emergency rooms, inpatient hospitalization, ambulance transportation, jail, and involuntary commitment, the Behavioral Health Crisis Center helps connect people in crisis to appropriate care while reducing costs across the community.

Since May 2021, the center has diverted more than 4,100 individuals from inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, more than 2,768 from arrest, nearly 4,800 from ambulance transportation to a hospital, more than 1,520 from involuntary commitment, and more than 5,705 from local emergency departments. Services provided by the center have also prevented more than 3,000 suicides and nearly 2,853 overdoses.

By offering a full continuum of crisis intervention, assessment, and referral services, the Behavioral Health Crisis Center streamlines access to care, improves outcomes for those in need, supports the vital work of first responders and community partners, and continues to ease the burden on our community's critical resources.

The crisis center is located at 2401 Gordon Smith Drive in Mobile. At the crisis center, individuals have access to psychiatric specialists around the clock, receiving immediate, effective care in a comfortable setting. The center offers both a 23-hour stabilization unit and an extended observation unit for stays up to seven days. After treatment, individuals return to the community with ongoing support to help them maintain stability.
