Altran Supports Real-time Skin Cancer Screening with DAMAE Medical

DAMAE Medical is the laureate of the Altran Foundation for Innovation's 2014 International Award. An innovative optical imagery system designed by the French team of Anaïs Barut, Arnaud Dubois and David Siret, DAMAE Medical is revolutionising skin cancer screening methods. The system assesses tumour malignancy in real time upon mere contact with the skin, by making in-depth on-site analyses of potentially cancerous cells. Designed to give quicker and more reliable results, this solution reduces the costs of skin tumour diagnosis.

A team of Altran experts will offer support to DAMAE Medical for one year, guiding the start-up from the optical research laboratory to hospitals. The goal is to transform the prototype into a portable medical device ready for clinical testing. During the first phase of this technological sponsorship, which has been underway for a month, the team identified three areas of focus:

• Make the device portable and easy for doctors to use. To do so, Altran is applying its mechanical, ergonomics and design skills.
• Obtain CE marking required for clinical testing. The extensive Altran expertise guarantees that processes and documentation meet standards applicable to in-vivo diagnostic aids.
• Develop a strategic plan and detailed schedule for the year, thanks to the Group's project management expertise.

The Altran Foundation for Innovation International Award's other two finalists will receive guidance from Altran experts as well, for a period of six months: IBI-Cardiorotors in Portugal, a non-invasive imaging system to diagnose atrial fibrillation, and Park Smart in Italy, a system designed to optimise urban mobility. Park Smart was also rewarded by Altran group employees through winning the 2014 Innovation Makers Award following a vote on social networks.
