A&M-San Antonio Rises Nine Spots in 2027 U.S. News Social Mobility Rankings

SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas A&M University-San Antonio continues to climb in the latest U.S. News & World Report College Rankings, making its largest gain in the Top Performers on Social Mobility category, advancing nine spots to No. 31.

The social mobility ranking measures how successfully universities enroll and graduate students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Approximately 60% of A&M-San Antonio students are Pell Grant-eligible, reflecting the University's mission to expand access to higher education and create pathways to opportunity. Helping drive that impact is Jaguar Promise, which removes financial barriers by covering tuition and fees for eligible Texas students from families earning $70,000 or less. The University's mission also creates wealth for students, as Jaguars receive a cumulative value of $427 million in increased earnings over their working lives.  

The University also rose one spot to No. 28 among Top Public Schools and held steady on its ranking as No. 56 among Regional Universities West, which includes institutions across 14 states, including Texas, Washington, Nevada and California.

A&M-San Antonio has garnered other notable rankings recently, including from the data platform Research.com, which recognized the University's computer science degree program as the most valuable in San Antonio. These rankings come as the University is expanding its academic programs, having recently launched a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and plans to launch a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences for Fall 2027. At the same time, the University is growing its research portfolio as it strives toward achieving R2 status, with research grants more than doubling to approximately $8 million in fiscal year 2026, up from $3.6 million the previous year.
