A&M-San Antonio Sets Record Enrollment for First-Time-in-College Students
SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas A&M University-San Antonio is celebrating record first-time-in-college enrollment for Fall 2026, with 1,322 students, up from 1,281 last fall.
The historic size of this year's incoming class reflects the University's increasingly vital role as a higher-education resource for students and families across San Antonio, Bexar County and beyond.
"This record enrollment of our first-year cohort reflects the growing confidence that students and families have in Texas A&M University-San Antonio and our commitment to providing an affordable, high-quality education," said President Salvador Hector Ochoa. "As our University continues to grow, we remain focused on creating opportunities for students to achieve their educational goals while preparing them to contribute to the economic and civic vitality of our region and state."
Total enrollment for Fall 2026 is 7,697 students, with 75% coming from Bexar County and 98.6% from Texas. Students also represent 25 other states and Puerto Rico. Approximately two-thirds of undergraduate students are the first in their families to attend college.
The number of credit hours generated by enrolled students also increased, reaching 86,118, up from 84,568 in Fall 2025. The increase reflects continued growth in both the number of students attending the University and the courses in which they are enrolled.
A&M-San Antonio remains focused on making higher education accessible and affordable, particularly for students who may face financial barriers to earning a college degree. Sixty percent of this semester's undergraduate students are Pell Grant-eligible, and the University provides support through initiatives such as the Jaguar Promise, which helps eligible Texas students cover the cost of tuition and fees and provides a book stipend.
The Jaguar Promise program continues to expand, with the number of first-year students receiving the scholarship increasing 21% compared to last year.
The University also continues to serve a significant population of military-connected students. A&M-San Antonio provides educational opportunities and support for veterans, active-duty service members and military-connected families. For Fall 2026, military-affiliated students account for 16% of undergraduates and 19% of graduate students.
The University's cohort growth comes as A&M-San Antonio continues to open new academic and athletic facilities and launch new degree programs designed to meet the evolving needs of the region's workforce. This semester, the University rolled out its Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership, and next fall will launch a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences.
Together, these investments and initiatives are helping A&M-San Antonio advance its mission of expanding access to higher education while building a growing destination campus on San Antonio's South Side.
