CHICAGO, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Melissa M. of Hartland, WI, has been named the grand prize winner of True Value's first-ever "DIY Drama" Contest, which allowed homeowners to share their home improvement projects gone awry for a chance to fix-up their mix-ups. Melissa appealed to America with her "Showered with Duct Tape" story and garnered the most online votes. As the national winner, Melissa will receive $5,000 to use at her local True Value store and an in-person consultation with a True Value expert to get the project done right.
After Melissa purchased her childhood home, she came to find that her father embodied the can-do spirit of a true do-it-yourselfer - and had a house full of half-completed projects to show for it! The biggest DIY glitch involved applying duct tape as a temporary tile solution for a leaky shower faucet. Fast forward to 10 years later and Melissa is still grappling with what to do with her duct-taped shower. With the prize money and project know-how of a helpful True Value employee or "Master of All Things Hardwarian," Melissa is ready to finish the bathroom project where her father left off.

About True Value's "DIY Drama" Contest
This fall, to show homeowners that they're not alone, True Value asked Americans to submit their best DIY drama story for the opportunity to fix their home improvement blunder. Participants entered the contest by submitting a brief essay along with a short video or up to three photos, which illustrated their story. Then, America was invited to vote for their favorite entry on www.StartRightStartHere.com from among the top 10 finalists, who had dramas ranging from an outrageous purple paint job to a tile-grouting project gone awry.
