PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Saturday, November 4, the American Diabetes Association (Association) will host the annual Philadelphia Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes presented by Merck at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Walkers and runners will raise funds for research, programs and education that will help treat and prevent diabetes, find possible cures and improve the lives of all living with and affected by diabetes, while kicking off American Diabetes Month® at the local level.
Each year, nearly 1,500 people show their support for the diabetes community at this event. This year, participants have the option to run or walk a 5K route along the Schuylkill River during a family-friendly event featuring activities for all fitness levels, including yoga on the museum's steps, a health and wellness village and numerous kids' activities.
November is American Diabetes Month, and throughout the month the Association will recognize the nearly half of all American adults living with diabetes or prediabetes, acknowledging the strength, courage and determination that people with diabetes show in managing the challenges of this chronic illness. In addition to the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, the Association will host an Education Recognition Program (ERP) Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) Symposium on November 17, and Charity Partner Night with the Philadelphia Flyers on November 21.
