NEW YORK, July 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Skin Association (ASA) announced today that it has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America's premier evaluator of charities. This honor is awarded only to those charities displaying the highest levels of responsible fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.
Established 28 years ago to serve the now more than 100 million Americans afflicted with skin cancers and other skin diseases, ASA has funded over $15 million in vital research and educated over 12 million children, teachers and parents through their award-winning, national public school program entitled The Wonders of Skin: Looking Good, Being Healthy. In addition, ASA will fund a total of $2.2 million in research by the end of 2015.
"It is with great pride that we announce this wonderful distinction from Charity Navigator," said Howard P. Milstein, Chairman of ASA. "The Board of Directors and staff of ASA works hard to maintain an efficient, ethical and open organization, while ensuring the highest possible percentage of ASA's total expenses are spent on funding essential dermatological research and education."
ASA's president, Philip G. Prioleau, MD, commented, "This is a wonderful recognition for ASA. Being acknowledged as a financially sound, trustworthy organization allows us to continue our important work funding dermatological research and educating youth on sun safety and the importance of skin health."
In this competitive, constantly-growing philanthropic marketplace, savvy donors are seeking more information on the charities to which they commit their philanthropic dollars. Donors demand transparency, accountability, and quantifiable results from the organizations they choose to support. This 4-star rating confirms that ASA is worthy of their donors' confidence and most generous support.
"This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator differentiates American Skin Association from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust," said John P. Dugan, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Charity Navigator.
