New Ampa One feature will help clinicians keep the coil in position by automatically pausing brain stimulation when coil moves off target
PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Ampa, a neurotechnology company making transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) faster and more scalable for mental health treatment, today announced the introduction of Target Lock, a new feature for Ampa One designed to help operators maintain precise and consistent coil positioning during TMS treatment. Target Lock is a proprietary software and hardware feature of the Ampa One system, which is FDA-cleared for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder in adults.
Target Lock combines Ampa One's embedded camera with its Neuronavigation Cap to monitor coil position throughout TMS treatment. If the coil moves outside the prescribed treatment target, the system automatically pauses treatment and provides real-time feedback to help the operator realign. This feature supports operators in monitoring coil position, helping them be precise and consistent throughout each session.
"Bringing Target Lock to clinics across the country is an exciting next step forward in making TMS easier to deliver at scale," said Don Vaughn, Ph.D., co-founder and CEO of Ampa. "By helping clinicians offer TMS with greater precision and ease across their practices, we are helping instill confidence that Ampa One can be offered more widely to patients and delivered by a broader range of operators, doing so while keeping operational costs low."
"One of our challenges in delivering TMS consistently is the potential for human error. Patients move, coils shift," said Dr. Owen Scott Muir, CSO and co-founder at Radial Health. "Target Lock gives our team an objective tool that supports operators as they monitor treatment delivery. It helps keep the coil in the right position--technology and training moving hand in hand."
Target Lock is the latest example of Ampa's approach to TMS which combines established neuroscience with technology designed to simplify treatment delivery, reduce operational burden, and make advanced brain stimulation easier for clinicians to offer and scale.
About Ampa
Ampa is a neurotechnology company that makes Ampa One, a general purpose, portable transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) system cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of major depressive disorder in adult patients who have failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from prior antidepressant medication. Ampa One is available by prescription only. Offered to clinics on a monthly subscription with no capital purchase and no per-treatment fee, Ampa One is built by clinicians for clinicians to make TMS more accessible, portable and easy-to-use. Founded by researchers who helped pioneer modern TMS protocols, Ampa's mission is to enable one billion remissions from mental and neurological disorders. Learn more at ampahealth.com.
