Angelenos Collaborate on Bold Solutions for the Future of Los Angeles

The Goldhirsh Foundation and LA2050 will award $1,000,000 for the most innovative ideas to shape the future of Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- LA2050 (www.LA2050.org) – spearheaded by the Goldhirsh Foundation (www.goldhirshfoundation.org) – launches today as a collaborative effort uniting citizens, stakeholders, and organizations to address the region's toughest challenges. Through a $1,000,000 grants program, the LA2050 research report, and a digital platform for engagement, LA2050 aims to ignite the creativity and passion of Angelenos to make LA's story one of hope for all. 

LA2050 is grounded in research that looks at the health of the Los Angeles region as it exists today along eight key indicators: arts & cultural vitality, education, environmental quality, health, housing, income & employment, public safety, and social connectedness. The LA2050 report, which is available for download at www.LA2050.org, makes informed projections about where Los Angeles will be in the year 2050 if we continue on this current path. Angelenos are invited to explore the story of LA2050 and to share their vision around the eight indicators by reading the report and engaging in the discussion online.

The My LA2050 Challenge aims to put those visions into action by offering a total of $1,000,000 in grants to both non-profits and private companies across the eight key indicators.  Ten $100,000 prizes will be awarded for creative solutions that tackle some of Los Angeles' biggest issues. "We believe in the power of Angelenos to shape the future of our region," said Goldhirsh Foundation President Tara Roth McConaghy. "My LA2050 provides a platform to turn their ideas into action."

Submissions to the My LA2050 challenge open February 26, 2013, at 12:00pm noon PST and close March 28th at 12:00pm noon PDT. Those interested in participating in the My LA2050 challenge should go to www.LA2050.org for contest rules, eligibility guidelines, and submission instructions.
