LONDON, Nov. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Aon plc ( NYSE:AON), the leading global provider of risk management and human resource consulting and outsourcing, today announced that for the eighth consecutive year, the firm has received a perfect 100 percent rating in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Corporate Equality Index. Aon joins the ranks of 366 major U.S. businesses which also earned top marks this year.
The 2015 Corporate Equality Index rated 971 companies, including Fortune 500 non-responders, on the extent to which they protected their lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees, consumers and investors. To achieve a perfect score and the distinction of "Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality," companies must have fully inclusive equal employment opportunity policies, provide equal employment benefits, demonstrate organizational LGBT competency, evidence their commitment to equality publicly and exercise responsible citizenship.
"At Aon, diversity and inclusion are an important part of our unmatched talent agenda," said Greg Case, Aon's president and chief executive officer. "Career success should be defined by one's ambition and character, not by their race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or citizenship. Aon prides itself on fostering a work environment where colleagues can be themselves as they progress in their career. We are honored to receive a perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index for an eighth consecutive year."
Aon has been frequently recognized for its commitment to diversity and inclusion. In 2014, OUTstanding, a professional network for LGBT executives, named Phil Clement, Aon's global chief marketing and communications officer, as one of twenty global business leaders who are Top Allies for the LGBT community. Aon has also had numerous women leaders named to Business Insurance magazine's "Women to Watch" list every year since the list was launched in 2005.
Additionally, in 2014, Aon launched its "Safe Space" program for the firm's LGBT colleagues. The program is designed to ensure colleagues have workplace where everyone can be comfortable and authentic.
