DENVER, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international design, consulting, engineering and management services company, announced today that for the second consecutive year, it has won the Environmental Business Journal's Gold Medal award in the Mergers & Acquisitions category, for its merger with water and environmental  firm Malcolm Pirnie, White Plains, NY.

The Environmental Business Journal (EBJ), the leading business newsletter for the environmental industry, annually bestows its Business Achievement Awards on companies exemplifying strong business performance. The award winners are nominated by the environmental industry as a whole and determined by a committee of EBJ staff and editorial advisory board members.

Award winners will be honored at EBJ's Environmental Industry Summit in March 2010. ARCADIS also received the M&A Gold Medal in February 2009 for its acquisition of LFR Inc.

Malcolm Pirnie founded more than 100 years ago, has long been known as a top-quality consulting and engineering firm specializing in water-related environmental services. Malcolm Pirnie employs approximately 1,700 people at more than 60 locations, and reported $392 million in gross revenue for 2009. Its profitability was close to ARCADIS' overall target margins when the deal was closed in July, making the acquisition even more significant. For more information, please visit our pressroom at

"It's a tremendous honor to be recognized for a second straight year by EBJ in this important category," said Steve Blake, Chairman and CEO of ARCADIS U.S. operations. "The Malcolm Pirnie merger put us in a strong leadership position in the U.S. water and wastewater market, and fits very well with our combined strategy to be a world leader in the water and environmental sectors."  We at Malcolm Pirnie also saw this in alignment with the strategic direction of our company to become both a U.S. and global leader in the water industry through our combination with ARCADIS", said Jerry Frieling, Chairman of Malcolm Pirnie.
