BOSTON, May 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Mark Spencer, President of Arsenal Consulting (www.ArsenalExperts.com) will present "Sledgehammer and Ergenekon - Case Studies in Sophisticated Digital Forgery" at the Turkish Policy Center's congressional briefing "Digital Forensics & Justice in Turkey: The Sledgehammer Case." This event is taking place on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC June 9, 2014. The Turkish Policy Center's mission includes bringing new and objective perspectives, critiques and fact-based analyses about Turkey to the United States and ensuring a plurality in policy debates related to Turkey.
What are Sledgehammer and Ergenekon?
Sledgehammer and Ergenekon are high-profile and ongoing political trials in Turkey. Sledgehammer involves an alleged Turkish military coup and some of the most sophisticated digital forgeries Arsenal has ever seen. Ergenekon involves an alleged "deep state" in Turkey with ties to the military, academia, NGOs, and media. Forged documents critical to these cases include plans to bomb mosques, shoot down a fighter jet, and overthrow the Turkish government.
Why attend this presentation?
The Sledgehammer and Ergenekon cases have received significant press in the Middle East, but are only now receiving serious attention in the United States. A New York Times front-page article on February 27 covered these cases, referring to document forgeries identified with digital forensics performed by Arsenal. Attendees will have a unique opportunity to see Mark Spencer on a panel with Harvard scholar Pınar Dogan, daughter of chief Sledgehammer suspect and former commander of the Turkish First Army Cetin Dogan.
