Resort honors its storied history with multiple activations, experiences, and original 1946 lift ticket price as it celebrates 80 years
ASPEN, Colo., Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Aspen Snowmass, the mountain experience brand of the Aspen One portfolio, announced its plans to celebrate its 80th anniversary.
The resort will celebrate all winter long, and will start with a weekend of throwback pricing, including lift tickets on-sale for $3.75 on December 14 – the day the resort was founded – matching the original 1946 rate. Aspen Snowmass is also discounting lift tickets on Saturday, December 12 and Sunday, December 13 to $80, allowing guests to create a long weekend of deeply discounted mountain access paired with special anniversary experiences on mountain. Lift tickets provide guests with skiing and snowboarding on all four of Aspen Snowmass' mountains: Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass. The discounted lift tickets are limited in quantity to preserve the guest experience and respect mountain capacity – they are expected to sell out quickly.
"Eighty years ago, Aspen Mountain opened with a single lift and endless hopes and dreams for what was to come," said Geoff Buchheister, CEO of Aspen Skiing Company. "Today, Aspen Snowmass is a destination like no other – four unique mountains, two unique towns, one community, incredible experiences, and infinite perspectives. Nature meets culture in this very special place, where we seek to live fully and build lasting connections with people and planet. Every day, we carve the future while honoring the past – and this season, we're so proud to celebrate 80 incredible years."
Four Mountain Sports will offer $80 Premium rental packages December 12-14, and guests can look forward to multiple days of special on-mountain programming, including après parties, between Friday, December 11 and Monday, December 14, with more details to be announced. During those dates, on-mountain dining outlets will run $19.46 food and beverage specials, a nod to the year Aspen Skiing Company was founded. A limited run of anniversary apparel will be available during the season, both online and in-store, throughout the season at Aspen Collection, Aspen One's premium apparel brand.
All Aspen Snowmass Pass holders will qualify for additional giveaways and event promotions in honor of the 80th anniversary. Pass prices increase on September 19, and Flex Passes are on sale until October 30, while supplies last.
The anniversary weekend also coincides with Wintersköl's 75th year, with both milestones converging for a weekend that celebrates eight decades of mountain culture and community.
Beyond the four mountains, Limelight Aspen and Limelight Snowmass will celebrate with limited-time lodging rates for the anniversary window, including 46% off stays between December 11-14, using code 80YEARS (two-night stay minimum) at Limelight Snowmass, and 46% off stays December 13-14 (no minimum) at Limelight Aspen. The Little Nell, Aspen's only five-star, five-diamond ski-in/ski-out hotel, will provide up to a 30% discount between December 11-14, also using code 80YEARS, no minimum stay required. All three properties, which are part of the Aspen One brand portfolio, will extend the celebration with limited time special programming and food and beverage specials.
There will be additional celebrations, activations, and fun throughout the entire 2026/27 winter season. Full details, including the complete schedule of anniversary programming are available online: www.aspensnowmass.com/visit/aspen-snowmass-80th-anniversary.
