At The 11th Hour, Governor Corbett Continues To Fail His Own Test Of Leadership, Says Pennsylvania AFL-CIO
"We are elected to serve the best interests of the people of Pennsylvania. Leadership is not always about the popular choices; it's about difficult choices." Governor Tom Corbett, June 30, 2014
HARRISBURG, Pa., July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In response to Governor Corbett's equivocation regarding signing the budget, Rick Bloomingdale, President of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, and Frank Snyder, Secretary-Treasurer of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, offered the following comments:
Said Bloomingdale, "Governor Corbett continues to fail his own test of leadership. For him, passing a severely austere budget that seeks to be balanced by cutting essential funds for education and vital services, rather than having corporations and gas drillers pay their fair share is an easy choice, cheered by his right-wing allies and tea party supporters. If Governor Corbett truly wants to step-up and be a leader with the courage to make unpopular, tough choices unwelcome by the interests closest to him, he would stand up to the corporate bosses and his millionaire campaign contributors and tell them Pennsylvania needs them to pay their fair share," said Bloomingdale.
"Corbett cannot 'cut' or 'hope' Pennsylvania back to prosperity. The Commonwealth doesn't have a spending problem; it has a leadership problem. We refuse to be held hostage by a Governor who extorts a pathetic budget that stymies growth," said Snyder.
