Empowering future health professionals to lead in occupational injury prevention
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., Sept. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- ATI Worksite Solutions, a division of ATI Physical Therapy, and the Institute for Musculoskeletal Advancement (iMSKA) have launched a new Workplace Injury Prevention Certificate Program, with Indiana State University serving as the inaugural academic partner. The program, debuting this academic year through Indiana State's Master of Athletic Training Program, is designed to equip future health professionals with proactive musculoskeletal (MSK) care strategies.
The initiative builds on the expertise of ATI Worksite Solutions—a national leader in injury prevention, ergonomics, early MSK intervention, and occupational health—and iMSKA, ATI's research institute established in 2024 to advance evidence-based practices in MSK care. Together, these organizations are aligning academic training with real-world employer needs, preparing students to reduce workplace risks and improve population MSK health.
"MSK disorders remain one of the leading causes of lost workdays and long-term disability in the U.S. workforce," said Fran Kosinski, Senior Vice President of Health Services at ATI. "By educating future clinicians in preventative care, we're investing in a healthier, more sustainable workforce."
The certificate curriculum emphasizes the identification of biomechanical, ergonomic, and behavioral risk factors that contribute to MSK disorders (MSDs). Participants will also learn how to engage workplace stakeholders and implement practices that align with industry standards while promoting a culture of safety.
"This certificate not only supports our students' career growth," said Tim Demchak, PhD, ATC, GTS, Program Director of Indiana State's MSAT program, "but also addresses a growing national need for injury-prevention professionals who can make an immediate impact across industries."
Graduates of the program will be well positioned to expand their professional expertise and pursue careers in workplace wellness, occupational health, and injury prevention. iMSKA plans to expand the program in partnership with additional universities nationwide.
