AT&T Allegedly Violated Employment Laws, According to Training Specialists' Legal Team

LOS ANGELES, May 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- A nationwide class action lawsuit filed today accuses telecom giant AT&T (NYSE:T) of violating federal and state employment laws by failing to pay overtime compensation to training design and delivery workers.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in the Central District of California on behalf of all training specialists, including those in Design and Delivery (Instructors), throughout the United States (collectively, "Training Specialists").

According to the complaint, Training Specialists convey training information provided by subject matter experts to other AT&T employees. Some Training Specialists are "Designers," who interview subject matter experts to compile the information to be disseminated to internal AT&T employees, and others are "Instructors," who present the training materials to those employees.

The law firms of Outten & Golden LLP and Posner Rosen LLP represent the Training Specialists.

Wendell Walton, a named plaintiff, said, "My fellow Designers and Instructors and I work hard for AT&T and take pride in contributing to its success. We just ask that we be paid fairly under the law."

In performing routine work for AT&T throughout the United States, the lawsuit asserts, Training Specialists often work long hours, including late into the night and on weekends. The plaintiffs allege that AT&T has misclassified its Training Specialists throughout the United States as exempt from overtime pay under federal and state law, and failed to pay them for all hours actually worked in violation of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), as well as California law.
