BATON ROUGE, La., Oct. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* is "lighting up" businesses at break-neck speed these days. So far, service crews have installed fiber to an additional 54 multi-tenant buildings across Louisiana, making fiber-based broadband services available to more than 2,600 business customer locations.
"Businesses in Baton Rouge and across Louisiana are demanding more broadband services, whether wired or wireless, to drive efficiency, boost productivity, and communicate with and market to customers," Said Kip Holden, Mayor President of the City of Baton Rouge / Parish of East Baton Rouge. "This fiber expansion and those yet to come, enable the latest IP based services that will help our existing businesses and those we hope to grow and attract to Baton Rouge."
"Mayor President Holden and other elected officials across Louisiana are working hard to ensure our state is attractive to advanced infrastructure investment like this fiber expansion," said Michael Oliver, CEO of the Committee of 100 and Board Chairman of the Louisiana Tech Council of LABI. "Fiber and Broadband infrastructure must form the core of the communications backbone to serve large and small businesses across all industry sectors and the growing tech sector in Louisiana."
The effort is part of AT&T's Project Velocity IP (VIP), a three-year investment plan to expand and enhance the company's wireless and wireline IP broadband networks, including deploying its fiber network to an additional 1 million business customer locations in its 22-state wireline service area.
Under the fiber to the building program, Louisiana businesses in these AT&T Fiber Ready Buildings have access to an expanded array of security, network and cloud-based services, all of which ride on the fiber network. Specifically, companies in these buildings can more quickly and seamlessly perform such tasks as:
- Uploading and downloading large data files and images;
- Sharing large files with employees or customers in other locations;
- Uploading edits to company websites;
- Backing up data remotely in the cloud at one or multiple locations; and
- Videoconferencing with suppliers, business partners and customers.
The services are especially beneficial to businesses that regularly handle huge files such as medical images, illustrations, videos, engineering designs, and large presentation decks.
AT&T Fiber Ready buildings provide:
- Reliable and highly secure access to leading business technology solutions, including cloud, virtual private network (VPN), and voice over IP (VoIP) services.
- Options for adding equipment to enhance in-building wireless coverage and speeds.
- High-speed internet access over Ethernet with upload and download speeds of up to 1 Gbps.
- Improved efficiency by converging voice and data over the same network.
"By offering lightning-fast upload and download speeds, generally available to only large businesses, AT&T Fiber Ready buildings can take small and medium businesses to the next level," said Sonia Perez, president, AT&T Louisiana. "Fiber-based wired and wireless services bring the world to our business customers, but, just as important, they also help bring these customers to the world.
The program also offers benefits to property owners and managers, including:
- More appeal to potential tenants by providing access to the most advanced telecommunications services.
- Deployment of fiber-based electronic equipment that can serve multiple tenants, streamlining the installation process and minimizing disruption.
