HOWARD BEACH, N.Y. and JAMAICA, N.Y., Dec. 23, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* today announced the completion of a key initiative in its ongoing efforts to enhance the wireless capacity and performance of its mobile broadband network in Brooklyn and Queens. As a result of this upgrade to more than 55 cell sites, local customers in Cypress Hills, Mill Basin, Marine Park, Midwood, Flatlands, Canarsie, Fresh Creek, Howard Beach and Brownsville in Brooklyn and in Jamaica, Richmond Hill, Little Neck, Oakland Gardens, Bayside, and St. John University in Queens are expected to experience improved mobile broadband wireless data and voice connectivity and performance, especially during peak hours. The upgrades complement recent expansion of mobile broadband wireless capacity in both boroughs.
The network enhancement adds new layers of frequency, also known as "carriers," to more efficiently manage available spectrum and increase mobile broadband capacity at local cell sites. The expansion is part of previously announced investment to help manage ever-growing demand for mobile broadband services by allocating more network resources for AT&T's mobile broadband network.
"Delivering dependable wireless coverage for consumers and businesses who need to stay connected is our ultimate objective," said Hal Lenox, AT&T's New York President. "Our ongoing investments in the city will help ensure that our customers have access to the wireless services that help drive economic growth."
"Our goal is pretty simple: we want you to have an extraordinary experience when you make a call, check e-mail, download a song or video, or surf the Internet on your AT&T device," said Tom DeVito, vice president and general manager for AT&T in New York and New Jersey . "As part of the Big Apple, we're always looking for new opportunities to provide an enhanced customer experience and our investment in the local wireless network is just one way to accomplish this."
