WILMINGTON, N.C., April 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* announced today a contribution of $2,500 to sponsor the annual Razor Walker Award program at UNC Wilmington.

"Our children are North Carolina's greatest resource," said State Representative Susi Hamilton. "Those who commit themselves to making a lasting difference in these young lives are truly helping lay a solid foundation for the future of our state and her citizens. As an alumna of UNCW, I am so proud to see how this award from my university continues to inspire men and women to advocate for children and youth."

Each year since 1993, the Watson College of Education has presented the Razor Walker Awards to individuals who have made a significant difference in the lives of children and youth in North Carolina. The awards, named in recognition of the "razor's edge" that recipients walk between working within the system and working to change the system, have been presented to advocates from education, government, business and community organizations. The Razor Walker Awards, generously sponsored by AT&T for a number of years, celebrate the efforts, achievements and contributions of these advocates who all share a common goal: helping our state's children and youth grow up strong, happy, healthy and well-educated.

"Service above self is a hallmark of award winners, just as it is of leaders such as Representative Hamilton," said Kenneth Teitelbaum, Dean of the Watson College of Education. "Their commitment to others continues to open doors of opportunity and provide encouragement for the future for young people, while also encouraging all of us to do more and reach higher in service."

"At AT&T, we believe that nothing can make a greater difference in a community than impacting the education of its children," said John Lyon, Regional Director of External Affairs. "We are pleased to support the work of the university and the Watson College of Education, and to join in honoring those who are helping improve the lives and futures of children."
