AT&T to Wirelessly Connect Personal Response Device From EmFinders
EmSeeQ® Device Connects to the AT&T Wireless Network to Identify Lost Patient's Location
DALLAS, March 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* today announced an agreement with EmFinders to wirelessly connect EmFinder's EmSeeQ® device, a single purpose wireless device that upon activation dials 911 and reports its location directly to emergency responders.
The EmFinders EmSeeQ is designed like a wristband or watch-like device, without buttons or a screen, that connects securely and remotely to the EmFinders operation center. The EmSeeQ is useful for individuals with medical impairments that make them prone to wandering, including those with autism, Down syndrome or Alzheimer's disease. It can only be activated by the EmFinders operation center at the request of the caregiver.
Upon remote activation, the device calls and communicates its location to a 911 operator over the AT&T network, just as a standard wireless phone would. The EmFinders system uses U-TDOA triangulation to accurately determine a person's location, including locations in buildings or in environments that would typically interfere with standard GPS locators.
"For many, the EmSeeQ is a second line of defense that can help return loved ones home quickly and safely," said Glenn Lurie, president of emerging devices, resale and partnerships, AT&T. "This is an important innovation that can dramatically improve the way some people live. By connecting through the AT&T wireless network, we're using a tested location technology to help those who can't call for help themselves."
EmFinders was founded in 2007 by Jim Nalley and Chris Buehler, who together have more than 40 years of experience in the communications industry.
"It only takes a minute to lose track of someone and the feeling of helplessness when you are desperately trying to locate that person can be a very painful and stressful experience," said Jim Nalley, Co-Founder of EmFinders. "We designed EmSeeQ to provide those individuals with peace of mind and to provide those who have become lost a safe and timely way home."
