The Court of Federal Claims appointed Rand Nolen of Fleming, Nolen & Jez as Co-Lead Counsel for homeowners and businesses in the Hurricane Harvey case
HOUSTON, Nov. 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Fleming, Nolen & Jez is proud to announce that Rand Nolen has been appointed as Co-Lead Counsel for the homeowners and businesses that suffered flooding in Hurricane Harvey as a result of the release of waters from the Addicks and Barker reservoirs.
This is the latest step in what will likely be a complex legal battle that will ultimately determine what compensation those affected by the floodwaters will receive from the government for the property that was lost or damaged. As of right now, more than 1,000 home and business owners have filed federal lawsuits seeking damages exceeding $100 million, but the number of claimants, as well as the amount of money sought, is expected to grow.
The complaints are split into two separate groups based on whether their property was upstream or downstream. Rand is working with clients downstream, whose cases allege that the Army Corps' decision to release water through the dam gates caused the Buffalo Bayou to rise and flood their neighborhoods.
