NEW HAVEN, Conn., Nov. 4, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Avelo Airlines today marked five years of service at Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), where the airline took its first flight in Connecticut on Nov. 3, 2021. Avelo Founder and CEO Andrew Levy celebrated the milestone with Avelo Crewmembers, Customers and community leaders, and shared updates on the airline.
Avelo is marking the occasion with a fifth-anniversary promo code "5YEARS" offering travelers up to 50% off base fares* through March 31, 2027. Travelers can apply the promo code on new itineraries booked at AveloAir.com.
In five years, Avelo has grown from a handful of routes into Connecticut's hometown airline, serving the most nonstop destinations in Connecticut. Since its first flight, Avelo has:
- Flown more than 5.2 million Customers through Tweed-New Haven Airport
- Operated more than 40,000 flights in Connecticut
- Extended to 29 nonstop destinations from HVN, the most in the state of Connecticut
- Dedicated seven aircraft to Connecticut flying, more than 40% of its fleet.
- Grown to nearly 350 Crewmembers (employees) in Connecticut, a third of the airline
- Distinguished itself as one of America's most convenient and reliable airlines
Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said, "Five years ago, we took a chance on Tweed-New Haven Airport and on Connecticut travelers, and Connecticut has answered. Since our first flight, we have flown more than 5.2 million travelers through Tweed on more than 40,000 flights across 29 nonstop routes, and our Connecticut team has grown to 350 Crewmembers. Five of those Crewmembers have been with us since our very first flight from Tweed, and their dedication reflects everything Avelo stands for. We are proud to be Connecticut's hometown airline, offering convenient and affordable air travel to Southern Connecticut, the gateway to New York City."
Avelo serves 29 nonstop destinations from Tweed-New Haven Airport. Avelo's newest route will begin on Thursday, Nov. 19, with twice-weekly nonstop service between HVN and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico (BQN). The route will operate on Thursdays and Sundays. Aguadilla marks another expansion of Avelo's network beyond the continental U.S, and will be the second Puerto Rico destination Avelo serves, joining San Juan.
Tweed-New Haven Airport Authority Chairman Robert Reed said, "Five years ago, our partnership with Avelo opened the door to a new era of affordable, convenient air service at Tweed-New Haven Airport. That partnership has fueled extraordinary growth, with Avelo now offering more nonstop destinations than any other airline in Connecticut. For our passengers, that means more choices and more opportunities to fly from an airport close to home. We look forward to building on this success and serving our region for years to come."
Avelo's growth has also brought good-paying local jobs and new spending to businesses in Connecticut and across the region.
Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce President Garrett Shaheen said, "Five years ago, Avelo Airlines made a decision to invest in New Haven. The company delivered on bringing new jobs and new flights across the country. Even more so, Avelo's commitment to our region has allowed us to prove the benefits of the airport and set the table for future growth including an extended runway and terminal. Avelo is an active and engaged member of our business community, and we appreciate their support of Greater New Haven."
The celebration also highlighted the East Haven Aviation Career Exploration Program, founded by East Haven Schools and Avelo to introduce students to aviation careers.
East Haven Schools Superintendent Adam Swinney said, "This program gives our students a firsthand look at the many careers aviation offers, right here in their own community. We are grateful to Avelo for investing in the next generation of aviation professionals."
America's Most Convenient and Reliable Airline

Avelo has ushered in a new era of convenience, choice, and competition by using smaller, less crowded airports in large metro areas. Travelers get a closer airport to start their trip and save on parking and other costs, on top of Avelo's low fares and nonstop flights.
