Daubmann, currently a tenured and prize-winning faculty member at the University of Michigan's Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, has had a distinguished career in the world of architecture and design. A registered architect in several states, he received his Masters in Science in Architectural Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has received dozens of accolades, including the Architectural League of New York Young Architects Award, a National AIA Small Project Award, the AR+D Award - Highly Recommended from Architectural Review, the Architect Magazine R+D Award, and numerous state level AIA awards.
"Karl is a phenomenal architect and respected leader in the design space. He possesses the perfect mix of experience and creativity to lead Blu forward in an exciting and innovative direction as well as a deep commitment to creating lovely places for people to live," said Bill Haney, Founder and President of Blu Homes. "Blu has a history of building beloved architect-designed homes like the iconic Glidehouse and Breezehouse, and having an award-winning architect at the helm of our design team demonstrates our passion for building truly beautiful, inspiring homes for our customers."
Daubmann's new position as VP of Design highlights Blu's unique customer-focused approach to homebuilding, which emphasizes the integration of world-class design, cutting edge technology, and the highest quality materials and craftsmanship, all while simplifying the process for the customer. Whereas homebuyers are frequently left with a choice between cookie-cutter homes or spending huge amounts of money and time to hire an architect, Blu is making architect-designed homes accessible to more people. Daubmann's expertise in the fundamentals of modern homebuilding, coupled with his talent for creating attractive, forward-thinking designs that connect with nature, will result in homes that customers love.
Daubmann is uniquely suited for his role at Blu given his leadership in the world of digital computing in architecture, which began during his early work at MIT. At the center of Blu's building technology is Blu | 3-D, the company's proprietary 3-D design and engineering platform based on design software typically used by automotive and aeronautical designers and engineers at companies like Boeing and Volvo. Blu continues to make advancements in 3-D imaging, most recently with its online Configurator (http://www.bluhomes.com/configurator) tool for customers. Upcoming IT innovations will include Blu | GIS, to help customers find land and site their home, and the Blu | iPad app.
