Babson's Tom Davenport Among 21 Thought-Leader Professors in Data Science

WELLESLEY, Mass., April 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Babson's Tom Davenport has been recognized as one of the "21 Thought-Leader Professors in Data Science" by the website Master's in Data Science.   He is the President's Distinguished Information Technology & Management professor at Babson College.

The list features top influential educational leaders in the data science industry who have made significant contributions to the field through outreach and education.

Professor Davenport is the President's Chair in IT Management and is the co-director of the Working Knowledge Research Center at Babson. He is the founder of the International Institute of Analytics and specializes in business process reengineering, enterprise systems, knowledge management, and analytics.

He is the developer of numerous business terms, such as competing on analytics, big data, knowledge management, human approaches to information management, business process reengineering, and realizing the value of enterprise systems. Competing on Analytics, a book he co-authored, was recognized as one of the twelve most noteworthy management ideas of the past decade by the Harvard Business Review.

Davenport has co-authored and edited sixteen top-selling business books and has written hundreds of articles and columns, which have been featured in publications such as Harvard Business Review, Financial Times and Sloan Management Review. He is also an avid blogger for Harvard Business Online. His newest book, Big Data at Work, discusses what big data means from a technical, management, and consumer viewpoint. He co-authored Keeping Up with the Quants: Your Guide to Understanding and Using Analytics in 2007, a quantitative literacy guide for managers.

He was honored as one of the World's 50 Best Business School Professors by Fortune Magazine in 2012.
