Back Lot Music Releases The Soundtrack To Universal Pictures And EuropaCorp's Lucy Today

LOS ANGELES, July 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Back Lot Music has released the soundtrack from the upcoming motion picture Lucy on all major digital retail outlets, it was announced today.  The album features new music by composer Eric Serra and the original end title song "Sister Rust" by Damon Albarn, written specifically for the action-thriller that is in theatres this Friday.

From La Femme Nikita and The Professional to The Fifth Element, writer/director Luc Besson has created some of the toughest, most memorable female action heroes in recent cinematic history.  Now, Besson directs Scarlett Johansson and Academy Award^® winner Morgan Freeman in LUCY, an action-thriller that examines the possibility of what one human could truly do if she unlocked 100 percent of her brain capacity and accessed the furthest reaches of her mind. 

French composer Serra was born in Paris to popular French songwriter Claude Serra. He played guitar and bass in various jazz and rock ensembles during the '70s and '80s before being solicited to write the music for Besson's short film L'avant dernier and subsequent feature Le Dernier Combat (The Last Battle).  They have since collaborated on a total of 18 of Besson's films as both a director and producer, including the previously mentioned cult hits and The Big Blue, for which Serra won a César award (one of his six nominations).  Serra has also been nominated for eight Victoires awards (France's equivalent to a Grammy), winning four times.  Although Lucy marks only his 22^nd soundtrack contribution, he has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide.

Discussing Serra's previous work on The Professional, legendary music producer Robert Hine commented 10 years after its release that "few film composers can incorporate influences that range from Gorillaz to Stravinsky with such breathtaking ease and coherence."

It's only fitting then that Besson would commission Gorillaz frontman Albarn to pen the end title song to Lucy, tying together the film and score's main themes to leave the audience thinking long after they leave the theatre.  About his work with Besson, Albarn says, "Luc has a very particular style and approach to filmmaking, which made me want to create something distinctive and cinematic."
