BREA, Calif., and RARITAN, N.J., June 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Beckman Coulter, Inc., a global developer and manufacturer of clinical diagnostic products, and Ortho Clinical Diagnostics (Ortho), a global in vitro diagnostics leader, today announced a strategic relationship regarding sales of Ortho's VITROS® 3600 Immunodiagnostic System and infectious disease menu in the U.S.
Ortho's VITROS® 3600 System offers a broad menu of infectious disease tests that are used by several of the leading reference laboratories in the United States. It combines three high-quality proprietary technologies into a single system that is self-monitoring, highly efficient and easy to use, enabling health care professionals to make better treatment decisions.
Under this strategic relationship, Beckman Coulter will place Ortho's VITROS® 3600 System running HIV and hepatitis assays in labs that currently run Beckman's Power Processor Sample Handling Systems, and in certain other very high-volume laboratories.
"We look forward to working with the impressive team at Ortho to bring Ortho's high-quality infectious disease testing to our customers," said John Nosenzo, senior vice president, Customer Operations, Developed Markets at Beckman Coulter. "This relationship provides both immediate opportunity and long-term value as we continue to enhance efficiency, advance patient care and broaden our customer offerings. Through this relationship, we will be able to apply innovative technologies to deliver enhanced solutions to the highest-volume labs in the U.S."
A pioneer in laboratory automation, Beckman Coulter serves more customers in the U.S. with their track-based automation systems than any other company. The Power Processor can improve a lab's operations, enhancing productivity, operator safety and accuracy, as well as significantly reducing labor costs and eliminating opportunities for errors, for improved patient safety.
The arrangement will help very high-volume laboratories access state-of-the-art infectious disease testing on the innovative VITROS® 3600 System, with market-leading automation systems. Together, the systems will help laboratories improve operational efficiency and enhance patient care.
"Ortho has long been a pioneer in infectious disease testing. Our relationship with Beckman will help us deliver that expertise to their large installed base of automated labs," said Alex Socarrás, executive vice president, Global Commercial Operations at Ortho. "We are committed to forming key strategic collaborations such as this one, which enable us to stay focused on our core business while being nimble enough to meet the varied and changing needs of our valued customers."
Beckman Coulter and Ortho will also collaborate to obtain clearance/approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to connect the VITROS® 3600 System to the Power Processor to run infectious disease tests.
