2025 marked nation's top rare wine reseller's best year ever
NAPA, Calif., Jan. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Benchmark Wine Group, the top rare wine reseller in the U.S., announced today that sales in 2025 were the best in 23 years of operation.
"While many wine retailers and producers are struggling in this market, Benchmark's broad selection of rare wines, celebrated customer service, dedicated team and industry-leading technology combined to give us the best year in company history," said CEO David Parker. "Last year's acquisition of white glove reseller The Wine Spectrum also figured into our great results, 2025 exceeded 2024 by about 6.4% with fourth quarter sales leaping into record territory, exceeding third quarter results by over 16%. We see all the factors being in place for further growth, potentially at an accelerating pace, as we expand our product availability, market visibility and technology in the coming year."
"Fundamentals driving this growth include a large number of new top trade accounts, with top rated restaurants now accounting for over 20% of our sales. Partnerships with top lifestyle brands, leading wineries, technology providers and trade associations also contributed to our growth." added Mikaela Haynes, VP of Sales, Marketing and Operations. "We've seen Millennials become our largest customer base, with Gen Xers and Baby Boomers essentially tied for second place. And Gen Zers are increasingly discovering our rare and back-vintage wines and appreciating our white glove service and provenance guarantee as they discover the magic of perfectly aged wine in pristine conditions, at competitive prices to new releases. We've been fortunate to acquire so many great wines, including the largest cellar of Opus One to come to market this year, and to be able to build the best selection in the country of the world's most valued brand, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Many top collectors, including famous personalities, sell their wine through us."
"The recent appreciation of the rare wine market is also a factor in Benchmark's success" said Peter Gibson, Editor of The Wine Market Journal. The overall rare wine market appreciated three times as fast as the real estate market and the rate of inflation in 2025, and many wines have appreciated faster than even the hot precious metal market this year. Wine collecting is one of the most popular hobbies and alternate investments, and Benchmark has the largest inventory of any rare wine retailer or distributor of these investment-grade well aged wines in the country".
"While we strive to provide the largest selection of rare wine and spirits in the country, at the best prices, pay more for perfectly-stored rare wine than auction houses or large distributors, and keep our service at the top of the industry, our sales growth contributed directly to a very strong bottom line. I credit our world-class data, technological advances, efficient operations and dedicated staff for that success." added Kari Formento, Benchmark's VP of Finance and Technology. "We have plans to roll out some very exciting new capabilities in the coming days that will add greatly to the support and service our team can provide to our customers, while increasing accuracy, effectiveness and efficiency and freeing them up for more creative activities."
Benchmark's sister company, Benchmark Wine and Spirits in Washington, DC, also announced a record year. "Since our founding in 2022, we have seen consistent growth every year and 2025 was our best ever," said Matthew Coelho, Benchmark Wine and Spirits Vice President of Operations. "The sale of the largest rare spirits collection in our history, from noted cell phone technologist Craig Weiss, topped off a great year for us. With the industry recognizing Washington's unique characteristics for rare wine and spirits trading, it has been an ever-growing hub and ideal location for our east coast operations."
