In Support of the 2017 Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge, the "Dav Pilkey Summer Reading Educator Contest" Helps Increase Access to Books for Kids Nationwide
NEW YORK, April 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite conventional wisdom, six in 10 children ages 6–17 agree "I really enjoy reading books over the summer," according to the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report™: 6th Edition, but too many kids lack access to books when school is not in session. To keep kids' enthusiasm up around summer reading and to provide kids with more books to read for fun, bestselling children's author and illustrator Dav Pilkey, together with Scholastic, is giving one school in each U.S. state, territory* and the District of Columbia 500 new books for their school.
More than 6,000 educators entered the 2017 Dav Pilkey Summer Reading Educator Contest for a chance to win 500 Scholastic books for their school by sharing their need for new books that would help keep their students reading all summer. The contest is part of the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge, a free, global online and mobile summer reading program, to encourage reading all summer long.
