Bimbo Offers Golden Card to Soccer Scholarships

FORT WORTH, Texas, June 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Bimbo, a division of Bimbo Bakeries USA, is promoting health and education to youth through their soccer scholarship promotion. Beginning May 23, 2011, Bimbo Sweet Baked Goods will give away 30 soccer scholarships. The soccer scholarship will be hidden as a golden card inside boxes of Bimbo Conchitas, Bimbolete, Bimbunuelos multipacks, Bimbo Mini Mantecadas, Panquecitos and Conchas paneras. The consumers who find the golden cards will win a soccer scholarship for their child to the soccer club of their choice. In addition to the scholarship, winners will also receive a soccer kit with all the essentials needed to get them ready to play soccer.

"Many kids who are talented in soccer can't play in club and select soccer programs due to the cost," said Bimbo Brand Manager Cristina Torres. "These scholarships, in addition to our free soccer clinics, give kids a chance to expand their skills. Our consumers and retailers love promotions that benefit the youth in our communities. We are hoping that we can continue this promotion for years to come."

As part of the promotion, free soccer clinics will be provided for youth. The soccer clinics will be conducted by certified coaches and will include drills to work on skills such as head control and shooting with either foot. At each clinic participants and spectators can register to win an Elite Soccer Kit. The kit will include an official soccer ball, shin guards, a gift certificate for cleats, Bimbo T-shirt, branded socks and a branded duffle bag. Soccer clinics will be held in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Sacramento, CA.

"These clinics are especially beneficial for kids who may not be able to afford additional instruction. Plus, it gives us an opportunity to assist theses kids in recommending programs and other avenues where they can further their soccer skills and love for the game."

In addition to the golden cards, consumers can also find free fun soccer fact cards, pop up soccer players and soccer fields in specially marked boxes of Bimbo products. These cards introduce players and parents to the game of soccer, and include information on rules, positions, and more. It's a fun way to familiarize yourself with the game of soccer before you step out on to the playing field.
