Blackboard Adds Caliper Analytics™ standard Certification to Moodlerooms
Conformance of its open-source Moodle plugin paves the way for interoperability, data sharing, and next generation learning analytics
LAS VEGAS, July 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Blackboard Inc., the world's leading education technology company, today announced that it has obtained IMS Global Conformance Certification for Moodlerooms its enterprise open source learning management software (LMS), to provide activity stream data according to the IMS Caliper Analytics v1.0 standard. The announcement was made at DevCon 2016, Blackboard's developer conference taking place July 11-12 in Las Vegas, ahead of BbWorld 2016.
Caliper is a foundational vendor-neutral standard that increases interoperability by allowing learning data to be easily exchanged across different solutions. Following today's announcement, all institutions using Moodlerooms will be able to collect and merge data from different sources in order to have a clearer picture of students' activity across a wide range of learning tools, and distill better actionable insights through analytics.
In addition, Blackboard today released the Caliper plugin to the open source community, enabling further innovation by any institution using the Moodle platform.
Blackboard certified its flagship LMS Blackboard Learn™ in 2015 and was the first organization to complete the Caliper certification process. Making Moodlerooms Caliper compliant pushes the education technology ecosystem towards a more transparent approach to data interoperability. It also facilitates data sharing between institutions, fosters scientific research, and increases the pace of new application development.
