CARROLLTON, Texas, Nov. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Volunteering efforts come in many packages and forms. Shannon Davis, Community Service Manager at Blue Jay Wireless, came up with a unique event for her #giveaday. The #giveaday initiative is where Blue Jay employees take one out of every 10 work days and give back to the community by volunteering. Ms. Davis organized an invite-only Pub Crawl to raise money for the Samaritan Inn of McKinney, Texas, in the wake of Homeless Awareness Week. The Pub Crawl, aptly themed "Bringing Homelessness to a Crawl," took place in Addison, Texas, and all donations collected were designated for the Samaritan Inn, the largest homeless program in Collin County.
Fifty participants, including representatives from Blue Jay marketing, compliance and operations departments, along with other employees from the corporate world and beyond signed up for the fun event to raise money for a great cause. The group visited four participating establishments in Addison. Logie's on Beltline, Cafe Gecko Addison, Social House Addison and Sherlock's Baker Street Pub Addison all hosted the "crawlers" on their fundraising tour. Each location donated resources to the cause, as well. Shannon Davis added, "It was a very successful event, thanks in part to the cooperation of several local businesses, and it was honestly a lot of fun to get a diverse group of people in a different setting to raise money for such a great cause."
Overall, $4000 was raised for the Samaritan Inn during the event. Participants raised $2000, along with a participating corporate match program brought the grand total to $4000, that allowed Blue Jay Wireless to donate the full amount to the Samaritan Inn. This event raised both money and awareness to help bring homelessness to a crawl. For more information about the Samaritan Inn, visit http://www.thesamaritaninn.org.
