Facility renovations and service enhancements will increase access to recovery housing, treatment, and long-term support for men overcoming substance use and mental health disorders.
OWENSBORO, Ky., August 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Boulware Mission, Inc., a licensed residential treatment and recovery program serving men impacted by substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, is expanding its recovery housing and treatment services to help more individuals access the care and support needed to achieve lasting recovery. Supported in part by a $50,000 contribution from PMI U.S., the initiative will increase transitional living capacity, strengthen clinical services, and improve access to care for men seeking long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
Founded in 1921, Boulware Mission has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community while remaining committed to helping vulnerable individuals achieve stability and independence. Today, the organization focuses on serving adult men struggling with substance use disorders through residential treatment, recovery housing, and life skills development programs that address the challenges of addiction, mental health conditions, and housing instability.
As of 2025, Boulware Mission serves approximately 185 men annually through its residential treatment and recovery programs. Residents receive comprehensive support that includes substance use treatment, mental health services, counseling, recovery housing, case management, education, and workforce development. These services provide hundreds of counseling sessions, structured program hours, and recovery resources each year to help participants build strong foundations for lasting recovery.
"At Boulware Mission, our mission is to provide every individual who comes through our doors with the support, resources, and opportunities needed to build a healthier future," said Shane Sheriff, Executive Director of Boulware Mission. "These investments will allow us to serve more men, expand access to treatment and recovery housing, and strengthen the continuum of care that helps individuals achieve lasting recovery and independence."
Support from community partners has played an important role in helping Boulware Mission advance its long-term vision for growth. Contributions received through fundraising efforts and community partnerships, including support from PMI U.S. totaling more than $250,000 since 2025, have helped strengthen the organization's infrastructure and position it for future expansion as demand for treatment and recovery services continues to grow throughout the region.
"Boulware Mission has meaningfully served the Owensboro community for over a century and continues to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals and families," said Lisa Rechsteiner, Director of Civil Society at PMI U.S. "We are pleased to continue supporting its efforts and create new opportunities for long-term success."
Looking ahead, the organization is currently renovating portions of its transitional living wing, including a second-floor bathroom project scheduled for completion in September 2026. This renovation represents the first phase of a broader initiative that will support upgrades to 17 additional living spaces, significantly increasing housing capacity and allowing the organization to serve more individuals in recovery.
