Boys & Girls Clubs of America Names New Head of Resource Development

Julie Teer Will Lead Private Sector Fundraising for the National Youth Development Organization           

ATLANTA, July 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) has named Julie Teer to the position of Senior Vice President of Resource Development, effective August 1.

As the leader of the Resource Development department based at BGCA National Headquarters in Atlanta, Teer will direct all of the national organization's corporate, foundation and individual fundraising, and lead the team responsible for providing resource development services to local Clubs, including individual and planned giving, and major gifts.  She will report to BGCA President and CEO Jim Clark.

BGCA has launched a new six-year strategic initiative, the Great Futures Impact Plan, which focuses on helping Club members achieve academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles.  Research-based strategies include increasing the number of visits to Clubs by members, and the number of hours spent per visit; more targeted programs in areas such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), early literacy, summer learning loss, and homework help; increased partnerships with schools and other community-based organizations; and continuing emphasis on all aspects of child protection and safety.  To support the plan, Teer's team will lead BGCA's efforts to significantly increase the collective budgets of the national organization and all its local affiliates over the next six years.

Prior to joining BGCA, Teer served as vice president of development for Susan G. Komen For The Cure. She also founded her own successful fundraising consultancy, and has worked extensively in the national political arena, serving in key senior roles on presidential and senatorial campaigns.  A graduate of the University of Michigan, Teer was named in the "Best of New People" feature by Boston Globe Magazine.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America (GreatFutures.org), founded in 1906, leads a nationwide federation of more than 1,100 local affiliates, which operate nearly 4,000 facilities serving almost 4 million young people annually through Club membership and community outreach. Clubs are located in cities, towns, public housing and on Native American lands throughout the country.  Children and families of the U.S. Armed Services receive Club programs and support through some 390 BGCA-affiliated Youth Centers located on U.S. military installations worldwide.
