Braintree Reaches $10B Worldwide and Brings its Payment Platform to Mojang and Other European Innovators
Online and mobile payment platform paves the way for international companies to startup and launch
CHICAGO, July 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Braintree, the global payment platform behind many of the best next-generation online and mobile purchasing experiences, today announced more international momentum with the addition of Sweden-based Mojang, maker of the popular games Minecraft, Scrolls and Cobalt. Mojang joins a growing list of international companies, such as AVG Technologies, The Economist and Rovio/Angry Birds, using Braintree as their payment platform. Other recent additions to their European roster include: Click A Taxi, Hailo, MailMojo, Tictail and Wrapp.
Braintree also announced the company is now handling $10 billion in payments annually, with more than 25 percent originating outside of the United States. Braintree's sophisticated, developer-friendly payment platform allows companies to scale their businesses around the globe. Braintree expanded last year internationally, making next-generation payment capabilities, such as one touch purchasing, mobile payments and foreign currency acceptance, much more accessible for online and mobile commerce companies throughout Europe, Australia and North America.
"At Mojang, we are 100 percent focused on developing fun and engaging games," said Carl Manneh, CEO, Mojang. "With a reliable partner like Braintree we are able to keep that focus, while also providing our customers with the easiest payment experience possible."
Historically, European startups have had challenges getting their businesses off the ground because legacy payment infrastructure such as gateways and merchant accounts, typically provided by large banks and payment companies, were very difficult to access. With its international expansion, Braintree is stepping in to fill this void by providing fast-growing companies of all sizes with access to sophisticated payment tools.
"Every month we are hearing from innovative companies in Europe looking to bring their businesses to market or to expand internationally. To date, they have not had a payment solution that they could count on and they have been desperately looking for a better option," said Klas Back, General Manager of International at Braintree. "With Braintree, our customers can focus on doing what they do best—building great products—and leave the payments part to us."
Braintree is quickly growing its global roster with a broad range of businesses, recent additions include:
Click A Taxi (DENMARK): This award winning app serves one billion people with its car service aggregator solution. Click A Taxi selected Braintree as its payment provider to support its continued global expansion.
Hailo (UNITED KINGDOM): Hailo is evolving how people hail a cab and cabbies get passengers with the ability to hail a cab in two taps. The company chose Braintree to provide a seamless, one touch checkout on their app for a superior customer experience.
MailMojo (NORWAY): A leading email marketing service designed specifically for the needs of small businesses, MailMojo selected Braintree's payment platform because integration was dramatically simpler than with legacy providers.
Mojang (SWEDEN): The game maker of the popular Minecraft, Scrolls and Cobalt wanted a solution that could scale with their accelerated growth while also creating a one touch checkout experience for the players of their games.
Tictail (SWEDEN): In helping people create and manage online stores, Tictail understands the value of user-friendly solutions. The company came to Braintree to enable a one touch checkout experience through an extremely simple integration.
Wrapp (SWEDEN): Wrapp, a social gifting app that allows consumers to send free and paid digital gift cards using mobile devices or the Web, selected Braintree due to its ability to operate in multiple markets.
