Brian Patterson Joins The Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Board of Directors
VANCOUVER, Wash., June 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Native Arts and Cultures Foundation (NACF) announced Brian Patterson (Oneida) now serves on the national non-profit's Board of Directors. "We are a Native-led organization with a Board comprised of a stellar group of arts and cultures advocates," said NACF President/CEO T. Lulani Arquette (Native Hawaiian). "We are extremely pleased that Brian Patterson can contribute his experience and unique point of view to our leadership."
Since 2006 Patterson has served as President of United South and Eastern Tribes (USET), an organization dedicated to enhancing the development of federally recognized Indian Tribes, improving the capabilities of Tribal governments, assisting its Member Tribes in dealing effectively with public policy issues, and serving the broad needs of Indian people.
Prior to serving as USET President Patterson was chairman of the USET Culture and Heritage Committee as an advocate for the protection of sacred sites, the repatriation of remains and Native art, and other issues critical to the protection of American Indian cultural identity.
Patterson is a Bear Clan Representative of the Men's Council and Clan Mothers, the governing body directing policy for the Oneida Indian Nation. He was active in creating initiatives to support the revitalization of Oneida culture and return of historic Haudenosaunee sacred objects and items. Patterson also participates in government-to-government consultations and with federal agencies on issues of cultural advocacy, economic development and environmental protection with the focus and intent of leading to nation re-building.
