Calling All Texters! Do You Have What it Takes to be Crowned The 2012 LG U.S. National Texting Champion?

SAN DIEGO, May 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Mobile is scouring the nation for the fastest texters to prove they have what it takes to be crowned victor of the 2012 LG U.S. National Texting Championship. The texting battle will test players' speed and accuracy in multiple preliminary contests that kicked off this week. Contestants with the quickest thumbs will have to text at record breaking speeds to become winner of the 6th annual event held in New York. The champion will receive a grand prize of $50,000 and lifetime bragging rights.

Ten lucky contestants who make it through nine intense weeks of qualifying events will travel to the Big Apple to battle it out against their peers. The finalists will also have the chance to test their skills against 2011 LG U.S. National Texting Champion, Austin Wierschke, of Rhinelander, WI. Last year Wierschke used his LG DoublePlay to claim the $50,000 cash prize and title of Nation's Fastest Texter.

• Facebook® "Text Attack" Weekly Tournament – Every Tuesday beginning May 22, anyone who likes LG Texter on Facebook® can join weekly tournaments by logging on to the "LG Texter" fan page and selecting the Play + Win! tab. During this phase of the tournament, selected contestants will have the chance to win cash prizes of up to $100! The 12 fastest texters in each tournament will move on to the Online Finals and be one step closer to a trip to New York City and the Grand Prize of $50,000. 
• Wild Card Weeks – Throughout the seven weeks between May 21 and July 2, Wild Card participants will receive a text with a short phrase and the first person to reply with the exact phrase (spelling and punctuation count) will qualify for the Online Finals. Wild Card Week dates and times are a surprise, but participants can text LG to 28683 for game play alerts. Participants also will have the chance to receive cash prizes of $50 and $100.

The LG U.S. National Texting Championship began in 2007 and continues to impress. This year's competition promises to be the best yet as contestants take the stage in front of a live New York audience.
