Calvin and Hobbes Portable Compendium Set, The Mysteries by Bill Watterson Available as ebooks; Complete Set of Compendium Series in Print

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The wonderful world of Calvin and Hobbes is poised to delight readers in an all-new format on October 6, 2026, when The Calvin and Hobbes Portable Compendium Sets are released as ebooks, announced Kirsty Melville, Chief Executive Officer and President of Andrews McMeel Universal. The release marks the first time the complete masterful work of Bill Watterson has appeared in a digital format. In addition, The Mysteries, a beautifully illustrated fable by Watterson and renowned caricaturist John Kascht, will be released as an ebook on October 6. The Compendiums will be sold as 14 separate volumes, each featuring cover art hand-selected by Bill Watterson from the Calvin and Hobbes archives. All titles will be available in Fixed Layout, EPDF, and Kindle Fixed Layouts and will retail for $9.99. 

The ebook release coincides with the release of the seventh and final set of the bestselling Calvin and Hobbes Portable Compendium series. This concluding installation of two volumes includes the final year of comic strips as well as a gallery of classic stories, poems, and full-color art. The release of the ebooks as a full set of the Compendiums enables readers to enjoy the full portfolio of Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes oeuvre, comprised of thousands of strips with vividly rendered artwork featuring the myriad adventures and imagination of Calvin and Hobbes, and celebrating the friendship of the world's most beloved comic pair.

Called "America's most profound comic strip" and unquestionably one of the most revered and influential comic strips of all time, the escapades, explorations, and musings of the iconic duo have enthralled fans for decades, as the transcendent humor and charm of Calvin and Hobbes endures.

Their popularity has not waned, although decades have passed since they appeared in Watterson's last published work. From November 14, 2026 to May 31, 2027, a traveling exhibition, Exploring Calvin and Hobbes, will debut at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA. This exhibition marks the first time that Watterson's original drawings have been made available for a touring exhibition and features original Calvin and Hobbes daily and Sunday strips as well as specialty pieces by Watterson. It is curated by Jenny E. Robb, Head Curator of the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, and organized by The Ohio State University Libraries' Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum.
