NEW YORK, Feb. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Camp Broadway, a nationally recognized performing arts camp for kids, has added Gainesville, Fla. to its list of 2013 summer sessions (http://www.campbroadway.com/). The Phillips Center will host the program from July 29 to Aug. 2. Camp Broadway is open to kids aged 10 to 17 who have an interest in any aspect of theater. The purpose of the program is to provide a safe, supportive environment for kids to explore the performing arts. The camp is open to all skill levels; no prior experience is required.
Camp Broadway is a five-day, immersive experience, leveraging the knowledge and talent of established Broadway artists to nurture young peoples' interest in theater. Programs are non-competitive and ensemble based. A typical session includes master classes in voice, dance and acting, question-and-answer sessions with industry professionals, and a backstage seminar with a production crew. Camp attendees will receive official Camp Broadway T-shirts and a "cast of characters" headshot. The session's final day includes a Family Finale musical presentation.
"The demand for Camp Broadway and its programming throughout the country is growing not only with kids and parents, but performing arts centers and community centers as well," Camp Broadway managing director Melissa Caolo said. "Broadway theater-lovers of all ages long to be part of the thread that connects them to their professional theaters locally and in turn, the professional Broadway community in New York City. Camp Broadway provides that through line for all parties."
Camp Broadway lead creative team members have Broadway credits. Younger instructors have national tour or other professional credits. Directors, choreographers, musical directors, and acting coaches and production professionals all contribute to the instruction, providing a holistic view of Broadway production. Camp Broadway continues to build a network of national, professional theaters to encourage youth participation in the performing arts. Camp Broadway celebrates its 18th year of operation in August.
"Camp Broadway provides a wonderful education opportunity for students in our area who have an interest in Broadway and the performing arts," University of Florida Performing Arts director Michael Blachly said. "This program puts them under the tutelage of professionals who are currently working in the industry, which is a great stepping stone for those seeking further training in this area. We are pleased that Camp Broadway will be presenting their unique program in our market."
