CANVAS Outdoor Museum Show Returns To Downtown West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., July 14, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- After an overwhelmingly successful debut, CANVAS will return to Downtown West Palm Beach with a bigger, more colorful splash. The City of West Palm Beach recently approved Founder Nicole Henry's bold vision for the 2016 exhibition and beyond. Billed as the nation's largest outdoor museum show, the two-week exhibition featured 20 dramatic, inspiring installations and murals in 2015.

CANVAS will return to Downtown West Palm Beach with a bigger, more colorful splash. The first phase is expected to be ready in November 2016 and includes the Kids Art Park, Chamber Park, Installation Park, as well as a few murals on prominent buildings in the Downtown area. CANVAS is designed to captivate the imagination and enrich public spaces through art. The event brings together the most innovative and contemporary artists from across the globe to build temporary and permanent installations in various parks throughout Downtown West Palm Beach.

"Following last year's event, we continued to watch the trends from the art world, the way cities are growing organically and this is the perfect time to make CANVAS Outdoor Museum Show even bigger and unlike anything else out there," said Nicole Henry, who owns a gallery in Downtown West Palm Beach in addition to being the mastermind behind CANVAS. "This year, everything will be innovative and interactive for people of all ages, backgrounds and demographics to experience and enjoy."

The first phase is expected to be ready in November 2016 and includes the Kids Art Park, Chamber Park, Installation Park, as well as a few murals on prominent buildings in the Downtown area. Looking ahead, Henry plans to introduce several new dimensions to the outdoor museum show while leaving a permanent footprint year-round.

The Kids Art Park, Chamber Park and Installation Park will feature monumental shipping container and rail car art installations, an outdoor classroom, light installations, a creative playground, pop-up shops and more. A unique playground installation was funded by John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Fund of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties and Ms. Lilly Weinberg.

"CANVAS not only added a powerful new dimension to our A&E District, but it gave our visitors another reason to talk about and return to our shops, restaurants and cultural attractions," said Raphael Clemente, Executive Director of the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA). "CANVAS will now have a designated area with installations in public spaces that can be utilized 365 days a year."

The Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce, Art in Public Places, West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority, the City of West Palm Beach and the CRA are all providing massive support for this year's event. Currently, CANVAS is accepting proposals from local artists interested in creating a mural for the CANVAS Local Showdown taking place in the Northwood Village Creative Arts District on November 11, 2016.
